SPECIAL SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

PURPOSE: To continue the Board's search process for the next Superintendent by reviewing and refining interview protocols, establishing the process and participants for interviewing the top candidates, and reviewing the final community outreach report with the Board's facilitator. These discussions are intended to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and well-structured selection process that reflects the priorities and feedback of the community. This Special Meeting conducted by The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, is provided in accordance with Section 1001.372, Florida Statutes. There may be action by the Board on other items such as Personnel, Finance, and other programs. A copy of the agenda will be available no later than 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2026. MATTERS RELATED TO THE COMPREHENSIVE INTEGRITY-BASED SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT PROCESS FOR THE NEXT SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS – SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH FRAMEWORK- COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT REPORT II, SEMI-FINALIST SELECTIONS, AND NEXT STEPS TO IDENTIFY THE FINALISTS (REVISED)

 

ACTION PROPOSED BY CHAIR MS. MARIA TERESA ROJAS:


That the School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, has the opportunity to engage in a discussion and to provide further direction with the Board’s Consultant regarding the following topics:

  1. consider the information from the community engagement update to be presented by the Board’s facilitator;
  2. review, evaluate, and finalize the Board's selection of semi-finalists after reviewing the results of each candidate's background check and other vetting procedures and confirming that each candidate meets the minimum qualification requirements approved by the School Board;
  3. determine as to how the Board wishes to proceed with the approved list of semi-finalist and the next steps to identify the finalists;
  4. identify the Board’s selection of finalists;
  5. determine the procedures governing the finalist interview process, including the format and organization of the public interviews;
  6. authorize the School Board Chair to call a Special School Board meeting at an appropriate date and time not prior to the August 13, 2026 timeline, pursuant to and consistent with prior Board action, for the purpose of conducting the final interviews of the finalists and name the next Superintendent of Schools, as approved by the Board in the Superintendent Search Framework at its meeting of May 13, 2026; and
  7. authorize the General Counsel, once the Special Board meeting is set to be scheduled, to notify the finalists of the public interviews and the time they are set to participate in the process.
