C-1 REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION TO ENTER INTO A COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH MIAMI-DADE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, WOLFSON CAMPUS, TO ESTABLISH A THIRD SITE FOR THE SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDIES (SAS) FOR THE i999-2000 SCHOOL YEAR, AT A COST NOT TO EXCEED $155,764

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, authorize the Superintendent to enter into a cooperative agreement with Miami-Dade Community College, Wolfson Campus, to establish a third site for the School for Advanced Studies (SAS) for the 1999-2000 school year, at a cost not to exceed $155,764. The appropriation for this item will be included in the Tentative Budget to be recommended for adoption in July 1999.

C-2 REQUEST FOR APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION NO. 99-06 OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, DESIGNATING MARCH AS "WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH"

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, approve Resolution No. 99-06 of The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, designating March as Women's History Month to be celebrated in all Miami-Dade County public schools.

C-3 REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION TO ENTER INTO A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF ITALY, FROM FEBRUARY 11, 1999 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2000

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida:

1. authorize the Superintendent to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding between Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Consulate General of Italy from February 11, 1999 through June 30, 2000;
2. authorize the initiation of an Italian Section of the Pre- International Baccalaureate (Pre-IB) program beginning with the 1999-2000 school year Elementary School; and
3. authorize the Superintendent to renew the Memorandum of Understanding annually for up to two additional one-year periods.


C-11 CONFIRMATION OF A RENEWAL OF A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT WITH THE SOUTH FLORIDA EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING CONSORTIUM FOR REIMBURSEMENT TO MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $97,200, JANUARY 1, 1999 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 1999

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade bounty, Florida, confirm the renewal of a contractual agreement with the South Florida Employment and Training Consortium for reimbursement to Miami-Dade County Public Schools for the cost of hiring three part-time bilingual (English/Spanish) instructors in an amount not to exceed $97,200, January 1, 1999 through December 31, 1999. There is no cost to the school district.

C-13 REQUEST AUTHORIZATION FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT TO ALLOW MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO SUPPORT THE "JUNGLE WALK FOR KIDS" ON SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 1999, AT MIAMI METRO ZOO, AND ADVERTISE THE EVENT THROUGH ELECTRONIC MAIL

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, authorize the Superintendent to allow Miami-Dade County Public Schools to support the "Jungle Walk for Kids" on Saturday, April 24, 1999, at Miami Metro Zoo, and advertise the event through electronic mail. There will be no cost to the district.

C-14 REQUEST AUTHORIZATION TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT WITH THE RADISSON MART PLAZA HOTEL TO PROVIDE SERVICES RELATED TO THE DISTRICT DADE PARTNERS RECOGNITION CEREMONY ON MARCH 29, 1999

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, authorize the Superintendent to enter into a contractual agreement with the Radisson Mart Plaza Hotel to provide services related to the district Dade Partners Recognition Ceremony on March 29, 1999. The appropriation for this item is included in the Trust and Agency Fund of the 1998-99 Adopted Budget. There will be no cost to the district.

C-15 RENEWAL OF A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT WITH PARTNERS FOR AMERICAN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (PAVE), IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $70,000, FEBRUARY 11, 1999 THROUGH AUGUST 30, 1999

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, authorize the Superintendent to enter into a contractual agreement with the Partners for American Vocational Education, in an amount not to exceed $70,000, February 11,1999 through August 30, 1999. The appropriation for this item is included in the 1998-99 Adopted Budget.

C-16 REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION TO ISSUE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FROM AGENCIES TO PROVIDE RESPIRATORY THERAPIST, REGISTERED NURSE, AND LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE SERVICES FOR THE EDUCATION OF EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS FROM JULY 1, 1999 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2000

1. authorize the Superintendent to issue a Request for Proposals from agencies to provide Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse, and Licensed Practical Nurse services needed as related support services for the education of exceptional students, from July 1, 1999 through June 30, 2000; and

D-2 REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT WITH FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY AND VELASCO-QUINTERO PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES UNDER THE MIAMI-DADE YOUTH CRIME PREVENTION GRANT

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida:

1. authorize the Superintendent to enter into a contractual agreement in an amount not to exceed $17,048 with Florida International University under the Miami-Dade Youth Crime Prevention Grant, February 15, 1999 to August 16, 1999.
2. authorize the Superintendent to enter into a contractual agreement in an amount not to exceed $11,900 with Velasco-Quintero Psychological Services under the Miami-Dade Youth Crime Prevention Grant, February 15, 1999 to August 16, 1999.


D-3 PROPOSED OPENING AND CLOSING TIMES FOR ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS FOR THE LAST THREE DAYS OF SCHOOL - JUNE 14, 15 AND 16, 1999

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida:

1. approve for June 14, 15 and 16, 1999, a reduction of the school day in all elementary schools to five hours and 15 minutes; in all middle schools to five hours and 30 minutes; and in all senior high schools to four hours and 30 minutes; and
2. authorize the Superintendent to make any special adjustments necessary due to unique circumstances in particular schools.


D-4 OPENING AND CLOSING HOURS AND EXCEPTIONS TO OPENING AND CLOSING HOURS OF SCHOOL FOR THE 1999-2000 SCHOOL YEAR

RECOMMENDED
: That The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida:

1. approve the opening and closing hours of school (Pre-K-12) for the 1999-2000 school year; and

: That effective February 10, 1999, at the close of the workday, the School Board suspend and initiate dismissal proceedings against Ms. Kathleen A. Migon, teacher at Campbell Drive Middle School, pending the outcome of a hearing, if requested.
